Implementing Tracking Code

Last Updated: Dec 27, 2016 | Print this Article
Implementing Pardot tracking is a similar process to what you might do with any other popular web analytics tool. Simply add a snippet of tracking code to any page that you want to monitor and any actions taken by your visitors will be recorded for your analysis. This small piece of code will invisibly capture all visits to the page, including the amount of time spent browsing.
You may need the assistance of your IT department or webmaster to insert the tracking code.

  1. Navigate to Marketing > Campaigns.
  2. Click on the name of the campaign whose tracking you'd like to include on your website. The default is Website Tracking campaign.
  3. Once the campaign's main screen appears, click on the View tracking code link.
  4. Copy and paste the generated JavaScript code right before the close body tag on your HTML pages. The close body tag will be located within a few lines of the end of the HTML page. With the added script, the end of your HTML page should look similar to the following:
Note: This tracking code is meant to serve as an example only, it will not track visitors on your site. To obtain your personalized tracking code, please refer to the instructions above.

If you are already using tracking code for another analytics tool such as Google Analytics, you can paste in the Pardot code either above or below that snippet. For details on adding a javascript parameter to specific pages so they will display as a separate activity in the Activity View, please see Priority Pages. For details on designating custom points for pages, please see Setting Custom Scores for Pages.
