Setting Up Progressive Profiling

Last Updated: Jun 14, 2016 | Print this Article

Progressive Profiling allows marketers to progressively gather more information over time and build a profile of the prospect. In this article, we'll show you how to get started. We'll use the following example to walk you through the steps:
  • All of your forms show First Name, Last Name, Company, and Email.
  • Once a prospect completes these fields, the next form they see will show a Job Title field.
  • When Job Title is completed then the next form will show a Employees field.
  • If Employees was completed then the next form will show an Industry dropdown field.
  1. Navigate to Marketing > Forms.
  2. Select the Form you want to edit.
  3. In Step 2 (Fields) of the Form Wizard, click the pencil icon to edit the Job Title field.
  4. Go to the Progressive tab.
  5. Mark Show this field only if the prospect already has data in the following field(s):.
  6. Add: First Name, Last Name, Company, Email in from the dropdowns.
  7. Click Save changes.
  8. Click the pencil icon to edit the Employees field.
  9. Go to the Progressive tab.
  10. Mark Show this field only if the prospect already has data in the following field(s):.
  11. Select Job Title from the dropdown.
  12. Click Save changes.
  13. Click the pencil icon to edit the Industry field.
  14. Go to the Progressive tab.
  15. Mark Show this field only if the prospect already has data in the following field(s):.
  16. Select Employees from the dropdown.
  17. Click Save changes.
  18. When finished, click Confirm & Save to save your form.
Due to the conditional fields this form will now show in 4 phases -- each time the prospect submits the form, they will be prompted for more information. If you wish to show an entirely new set of fields on the second view (for example, fields A - D on the first view, but fields E - G on the second view), just make the "second view" fields all dependent on the same set of fields.

Notes

  • If you would like to have multiple progressive questions per phase of the form then use the same logic as designated above for all fields in that phase.
  • If you return to the same form without clearing your cookies within a 10 minute window after completing it, you will still see the thank you content or be redirected to the thank you page.
