Why is the “Pardot URL” in my CRM linking to the wrong prospect in Pardot?

The Pardot URL field in your CRM is automatically updated with the URL from the syncing prospect in Pardot upon its first sync. The URL can be followed to view the syncing prospect in Pardot, however, there are certain scenarios where this field can begin linking to the wrong prospect.

Merged records

It may be possible to merge records in your CRM. If you merge a record that is syncing with a Pardot prospect, and the CRM record that remains has a Pardot URL that does not match the URL of the Pardot prospect that it will sync with going forward, when you follow the URL, it will link you to the wrong prospect. You can correct this by copying and pasting the correct URL from the prospect record in Pardot onto the record in your CRM.

Cloned records

It may be possible to clone or make copies of records in your CRM. If you clone a record that is currently syncing with a prospect in Pardot, the Pardot URL will also be copied. When you click on this URL, it will bring you to the Pardot prospect that the original record is syncing with. You can correct this by copying and pasting the correct URL from the prospect record in Pardot onto the record in your CRM.

Two Instances of Pardot

If you have two separate Pardot instances connected to one CRM instance, the Pardot URL is used to indicate which instance of Pardot the CRM record syncs with. If the Pardot prospect is switched to sync with a different instance of Pardot, the Pardot URL will no longer link to the correct prospect in Pardot. You can correct this by copying and pasting the correct URL from the prospect record in Pardot onto the record in your CRM.

Manually entered URL

It is possible to result in a bad Pardot URL in your system by simple user error. If the Pardot URL field is manually changed or copied from the wrong prospect, it will not link to the correct prospect. You can correct this by copying and pasting the correct URL from the prospect record in Pardot onto the record in your CRM.
