How is the URL for a Prospect's Company field determined?

The Company field in a prospect record is hyperlinked so that you can find out more about the business. When a prospect fills out the Website form field, Pardot will use that to determine the company URL. If the Website field does not have a value, we use the prospect's email address domain (must not be a free email provider) to determine the company URL.

This table explains how Pardot determines a company URL in various scenarios:
Website Field Company Field Empty Company Field Complete
Empty Company field displays URL based on domain of the Email Address field. Company field displays the Company field value and links to URL based on domain of the Email Address field.
Complete Company field displays Website value. Company field displays Company field value and links to the URL specified in the Website field.

  • When Pardot displays a URL in a prospect's Company field, the URL is for display only. Unless the Company field is populated by a prospect's form completion, a sync with CRM data, or manually by a Pardot user, automation rules or dynamic list criteria based on Company will interpret the Company field as Prospect Default Field / is empty.
  • Company field is required for Pardot to sync with leads in Salesforce. If the field is empty in Pardot, the company field value in the lead will be synced as [[Unknown]].
