Valid Email Address Overview

Last Updated: Nov 19, 2015 | Print this Article

We comply with the RFC’s 2822 standard for email address verification. Therefore, we don't allow email addresses that have unicode characters in form fields, prospects, and users. This means that addresses with characters from foreign languages (such as Chinese or Russian characters) will fail validation. For forms, this is the case even if the datatype has been set to text.

We currently support the following email address format: For the local part of the email address (anything before the @ symbol) we accept the following characters:

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz!#$%&'*/=?^_+-`{|}~0123456789

Note: The character dot '.' is supported, as long as it's not the first or last character in the local part.

For the domain part (anything after the @ symbol) of the email address, we accept the following characters:

0-9 and A-Z and a-z and dash '-'

Example email address:
abcdefg.hijklmnopqrstuvwxyz!#$%&'*/=?^_+-`{|}~0123456789@acme-inc.com
