The "Do Not Track" initiative began in an effort to prevent third parties from gaining personal information across multiple websites without explicit consent. Browsers with "Do Not Track" enabled disallow activities on one site to be captured by a third party and used on another site (to display targeted ads, for example). "Do Not Track" headers are an option available in all major modern browsers. Some browsers, like Internet Explorer 10, enable “Do Not Track” by default.
"Do Not Track" and Pardot
Pardot is not a third party — we are a first party. Pardot Administrators place tracking code directly on their own sites, and Pardot tracks links that come directly to our servers on behalf of our clients. Pardot’s tracking code allows your own sales and marketing teams to gain more insight into prospects based on their activities on your website — not their activities on other sites. By default, Pardot tracking code does not honor "Do Not Track" browser settings. Read more about this from our blog.

- Page views
- Form and landing page views
- File downloads
- Custom redirect clicks.
What is still tracked, regardless?
- Form and landing page submissions
- Email sends, opens, and clicks
Pardot allows account Administrators to decide whether or not a prospect’s “Do Not Track” setting on their browser will prevent activities on their Pardot-tracked website from being recorded.
If you wish to honor prospect's "Do Not Track" browser setting when it is enabled on their browser, have a Pardot admin follow these steps:
- Hover over your email address in the top right, then click Settings.
- Click Edit Account.
- Change Honor Do Not Track Header to Enabled.
- Click Save account.
