Technical Setup Overview

When getting started with a new Pardot account, there are a few technical setup items you'll need to take care of. This article lists the basics you'll need to get started.

Implement Tracking Code

Implementing Pardot tracking is a similar process to what you might do with any other popular web analytics tool. Simply add a snippet of tracking code to any page that you want to monitor and any actions taken by your visitors will be recorded for your analysis.

This small piece of code will invisibly capture all user activity on the page, such as links opened and the amount of time spent browsing. You may need the assistance of your IT department or webmaster to insert the tracking code.

Create Tracker Domains

You can add tracker domains for any domain you want to serve content from. Pardot uses a primary tracker domain to rewrite links for all your Pardot-hosted content and tracked links. Your IT administrator can set up any tracker domain and point it to Examples of common primary tracker domains include:

Note: You can have one primary tracker domain per account, and primary tracker domains must be unique across all Pardot accounts.

Email Authentication

Pardot allows you to send emails from your actual domain and adding email authentication significantly increases your email deliverability rate. Your IT administrator may set this up. In order to generate your unique authentication records, please identify any email domains you will be sending from. For example, if your email address is, enter “”.

IP Whitelisting

Email Sending IPs

To avoid having test emails ending up trapped by your company spam filter, have your IT team add your company’s assigned Pardot IP address to their spam filter whitelist.

Corporate Network Settings

If your IT department has set up corporate network settings that restrict web access to specific IP ranges, you will need to add the network ranges for our Salesforce data centers, which can be found in the article, What are the Salesforce IP Addresses to Whitelist?. If you do not update your network settings, you may not be able to access Pardot from your corporate network.

Product and Service Notifications

Pardot sends four different types of product and service notifications. Depending on your organization's structure, you may want to designate a different point of contact for each notification. See Product and Service Notifcations for more information and instructions.

Using Custom Fonts

Firefox and newer versions of Internet Explorer, by default, block access to custom fonts that are requested from domains other than the one they sit on. Custom fonts sitting on, for example, would be blocked in these browsers if pages on were to try to use them. These protections prevent fonts sitting on your web server from being used on your Pardot forms and landing pages. Your team will need to grant Pardot permission to use your fonts to ensure style consistency.
