You can also view a list of all prospects who clicked on a particular link. If you are using Google Analytics parameters, they can be integrated into the link during creation.
Creating a Custom Redirect
- Navigate to Marketing > Content > Custom Redirects.
- Click + Add Custom Redirect.
- Enter a Name. This is used internally and shows up in prospect activity, so make it something meaningful.
- Optional: Choose a Folder.
- Optional: Choose Tags for the redirect. The prospect will be tagged with these when they access the redirect.
- Choose an existing Campaign with which visitors will be associated with if this is their first touch with your company. If they have already accessed your company in some other manner this will not overwrite their existing Campaign tag.
- Enter a Destination URL. This is the location to which a visitor will be driven when accessing the redirect. This destination can be a page you own, a third party site, a file, etc. You can also enter a Vanity URL.
- Optional: add any Google Analytics parameters that you desire to your redirect. This will allow you to track activity in Google Analytics (your redirect must be pointing to a page on which you have Google Analytics tracking code for this activity to register).
- Optional: add Completion Actions to the redirect. Completion actions are not retroactive and will only execute for prospects (they will not affect visitors). Full Completion Action details here
- Click Create Custom Redirect to save the new redirect. A Tracked URL and a Short URL. You can use these links anywhere you would like to track activity.
When to use Custom Redirects
- Banner ads on third party sites -- you may want to track a banner add explicitly and see how many prospects and visitors access it.
- Social sharing -- you may share a link on Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. and want to see how it performs
- Links to files that you do not host -- your website may link to a file on a third-party site. Custom redirects can point to them and show you how many visitors access the file.
- Completion actions for custom redirects will only apply to prospects already in your account. Completion actions will not apply to any visitors who convert to prospects after clicking on a custom redirect. However, the click of the custom redirect click will still appear in their prospect activity.
- Custom redirects will continue to work if deleted.
- Custom redirects have a throttling period of 30 minutes. This means that, if a prospect clicks on a custom redirect, Pardot will only record a subsequent click after 30 minutes have passed.
